Power2’s Teens & Toddlers programme has been a beacon of hope and empowerment for young individuals. The Teens & Toddlers Programme
The Teens & Toddlers programme is a unique initiative designed to foster the wellbeing and development of young people by engaging them in mentorship roles. Over the past academic year, the programme has reached remarkable milestones, delivering 17 groups across Greater London and touching the lives of 154 young individuals. These young people, hailing from some of the most economically challenged areas, embarked on a journey of personal growth by mentoring toddlers, fostering an environment of mutual learning and respect.
The Power of Mentorship
Among the success stories is the programme conducted at Little Ilford School in the London Borough of Newham. Here, 10 young participants found a new sense of purpose and self-confidence. Under the guidance of Programme Lead Lynne, these young mentors engaged in meaningful activities with toddlers, from reading and phonics development to arts, crafts, and playful learning.
This mentorship was not a one-way street; it was a journey of mutual growth. The young mentors discovered their strengths, developed vital life skills, and experienced the joy of making a positive impact on their mentees’ lives.
A Curriculum for Life
The programme’s curriculum was designed to reinforce the learnings gained in the nursery sessions. Through “see and say” sessions, participants learned the value of positive reinforcement and the importance of giving and receiving feedback. Each week’s focus ranged from building resilience and effective communication to goal setting and fostering healthy relationships, equipping these young individuals with the tools needed for a successful future.
A Look at the Outcomes
The impact of the Teens & Toddlers programme is evident in the significant improvements in the participants’ wellbeing, confidence, self-esteem, and communication skills. A remarkable 80% of participants showed meaningful positive changes in their wellbeing, with similar percentages reflecting improvements in confidence, self-esteem, and engagement in education. Perhaps most impressively, 70% of those at risk of not reaching their academic potential are now on track to achieve significant milestones in their education.
